Rattan Is Here to Stay. Here’s How to Bring It into Your Home – Sunset Magazine

Incorporate this retro material in your home with stools, side tables, mirrors, and more.
The ‘70s are back. And we’re not just talking about flare pants, platform shoes, and love beads. Enter: rattan.
Made from a vine found in tropical regions in Asia, this material has a long history of being used in furniture and home decor. It’s a versatile material that has a woven, wicker look (wicker is the oldest furniture-making method in the world) and fits in with a wide variety of styles, whether your home boasts bohemian, Scandinavian, or farmhouse vibes.
HGTV predicts that ‘70s style and vintage furniture will make a comeback this year. And some of our favorite shops have followed up on the trend. Now, not only can you peruse secondhand pieces online at places like Chairish, but brands like CB2, Target, and Serena & Lily have also hopped on the rattan train.

You can incorporate rattan in your home in numerous ways. From indoor coffee tables to outdoor patio chairs, rattan fits well in multiple environments, especially because it can be tolerant to rain. Rattan pairs particularly well with boho and coastal aesthetics due to its wooden appearance and looks great dressed up with cushions and funky textures. For a farmhouse style, rattan meshes well with warm wooden tones and woven materials.
Rattan can fit into any room, from your bedroom to the living room to your bathroom. We love using rattan as a headboard or to frame a mirror in your bathroom. Honestly, we wouldn’t even be mad if you went all out and designed your entire living room in rattan, complete with pieces like a bench, coffee table, rocking chair, and more.
